Jenny Wang

Director of the Cognition and Learning Center (CALC)

Assistant Professor of Psychology and Cognitive Science

Dr. Wang is interested in understanding what allows us humans to master complicated systems of knowledge, such as mathematics. Before joining the faculty of Rutgers, Dr. Wang received her Ph.D. from Johns Hopkins University. Her work has been featured in the Washington PostBBC, and Smithsonian

The Cognition and Learning Center studies how our mind works and how it develops, such as how we understand concepts like “red,” “friend,” and “42.” We are located in the Psychology Department at Rutgers University – New Brunswick. We are also affiliated with the Rutgers Center for Cognitive Science.

As a student in my lab, you’ll gain invaluable experience with all aspects of psychological research – from study design and participant recruitment to data collection, analysis, and dissemination. My mentorship approach emphasizes hands-on learning, critical thinking, and professional development.

” I received top-notch training that provided me with various skills critical to being a well-rounded researcher. The lab is very warm and welcoming, which made the research process fun and exciting. I couldn’t have done it without Dr. Wang and the lab!” – Rahma Mbarki, PhD student at Boston University.

Everyone was so collaborative and supportive, and Jenny is the best advisor I could have ever hoped for in terms of preparing me to achieve my goals and genuinely supporting me as a person. The CALC lab was my home for 3 years, and I cannot stress enough how special it was to be a part of the team.” – Jasmine Yi, PhD student at Temple University.

We will be accepting graduate students this upcoming cycle! Read more about working with Dr. Wang here.

We are always looking for more like-minded people to join us. We support students through various programs, including the Aresty, LSAMP, SUPER, and RISE programs at Rutgers. If you are interested in joining us through any of these programs, please list Dr. Wang in your application.
